Originally from the warm, humid tropical forests of Central America, a cactus is the queen of the night that has spectacular flowers. Sometimes, it takes up to 20 years to produce its first flowers, which can reach 40cm in diameter. The flower blooms for only one night each year and releases a powerful vanilla-like fragrance that attracts pollinating insects during the few hours it remains open. Furthermore, its Latin name, Selenicereus grandiflorus, comes from the Greek goddess of the moon, Selena, referencing the flowers’ nocturnal blooming. Its unique aspect does not stop there. This flower was the queen of France, Marie-Antoinette's favorite and she would spend long hours watching the plant. The cactus is known to have different properties, including sedative, tonicardiac, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The queen of the night’s fresh flowers are harvested by hand and extracted via a cryoextraction process at -196°C. Remaining at a very low temperature, this extraction process makes it possible to preserve the natural components of the fresh plant and offer the best possible results.
