Why isn’t Clarins T.R.U.S.T. applied to packaging?
The Clarins T.R.U.S.T. platform will be rolled out across several phases. At present, Clarins has prioritized the plant ingredients in our skincare formulas.
Are all of Clarins’ products included?
The Clarins T.R.U.S.T platform only applies to products manufactured by Clarins. We rely on subcontractors to complement our production capacity, selecting partners with the required know-how and manufacturing processes.
Will all of the ingredients in product formulas be traceable on CLARINS T.R.U.S.T.?
For now, the CLARINS T.R.U.S.T. platform only applies to plant-based ingredients - the basis of our responsible sourcing. Information about other ingredients in our formulas - including preservatives, texture agents or sunscreens - are detailed for each product on the Clarins website. Our long-term goal is to share the traceability of all our ingredients by 2030.
Why do some plants have two different origins?
We sometimes favor multi-sourcing of the plants in our herbarium in order to cope with climatic hazards that can impact the quantities harvested. In this case, the country of origin may differ to ensure consistent availability of ingredients. In addition, an ingredient can be produced from multiple batch numbers of the same plant. Each batch number is a unique identifier that allows the journey of the ingredient to be traced, ensuring full traceability.
The information accessible in Clarins T.R.U.S.T. provides you with total transparency on the quality and origin of the raw materials used.
Why does Clarins source plants from around the globe?
At Clarins, we prioritize sourcing in France whenever we can. Sometimes, however, only plants from further afield have the specific properties our phyto-chemists are looking for. Sourcing certain ingredients from countries with a low Human Development Index allows us to support a dozen fair trade programs worldwide—including Madagascar and Burkina Faso. These partnerships help generate additional income for the indigenous communities that harvest the plants, while respecting local resources.
What does the date of manufacture mean on Clarins T.R.U.S.T.?
The date of manufacture corresponds to the so-called "packaging" phase, i.e. the moment when the product is filled and its packaging sealed.
How long can I use my product?
At Clarins, the shelf life of products is guaranteed for 36 months before opening from manufacture, unless otherwise stated on the packaging and provided that they are stored under appropriate conditions.
Once opened, our products can then be used for 6 to 18 months depending on the PAO* indicated on the packaging.
*Period After Opening, represented by a small open jar accompanied by a number.
