Commonly known as rose geranium or sweet scented geranium, Pelargonium graveolens is believed to have been imported from the Cape of Good Hope around 1690 by sailors captivated by its powerful rose scent. In the 19th century, perfumers looking to replace the increasingly rare and expensive Damask rose were also attracted to its heady fragrance and geranium soon became a must-have in the field of perfumery.
Sweet scented geranium essential oil is traditionally used for its toning action.
Responsible sourcing
Protecting the soil and biodiversity is a longstanding commitment at Clarins. That’s why we have always given priority to plant-based active ingredients sourced from organic agriculture, grown using sustainable farming methods that respect nature and soil health. For certain plants, such as geranium, we practice multi-sourcing meaning that we rely on both organic and non-organic extracts in order to ensure the required volume for our products is met.
