Bambusa arundinacea, a variety of bamboo found throughout India, is a fast-growing type of reed with a tall, hollow stem. The substance that forms in drops on the nodes of stems is known as “bamboo tears” or "tabashir" in India. It is very rich in silica and used in traditional medicine for its beneficial action on the joints and its toning and fortifying properties.
